From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Main article: Supernatural (Season 7) On April 26, 2011, CW announced early renewals for five shows for the 2012 season which included a seventh season for Supernatural with 23 episodes. The seventh season aired on September 23, 2011. Immediately upon declaring himself the new god, Castiel goes forth to punish those he feels deserve it. However, he absorbed things older than souls in purgatory, Leviathans that had been imprisoned there previously. Castiel attempts to rid himself of the purgatory souls, but fails to expel the Leviathans, who kill him and escape. Now on the loose, and seemingly unkillable, the Leviathans wreak havoc.
